Thursday 1 October, 3–6 p.m., Urban Lab, Piazza Palazzo di Città, 8/b

In collaboration with Ordine dei Giornalisti del Piemonte.

On Thursday 1 October, from 3 to 6 p.m., Job Film Days, in collaboration with Ordine dei Giornalisti del Piemonte, presents the training course Photography and Work. How the Lens Has Told the Stories of People, Factories and the City at Urban Lab. Alongside video accounts, personal testimonies, newspaper reporting and workers’ leaflets, photographers’ lenses have chronicled the complex, profound relationship between the city and its identity as a centre of mechanical engineering and car manufacturing. Strikes, picket lines, marches, struggles and protests, the March of the Forty Thousand, but also building sites and assembly lines, familiar and unknown faces, large factories and small workshops, social clubs and leisure: the news images of great photojournalists have created an invaluable archive of living material documenting sixty years of working life in Turin. They chart its journey from the factory city shaped by migration, through a retreat from collective political engagement, to its difficult transformation towards a post-industrial identity and a radically reshaped social fabric.

Speakers: Stefano Tallia (President, Ordine dei Giornalisti del Piemonte), Paolo Siccardi (journalist and photographer), Mauro Raffini (photographer), Giò Palazzo (photographer).

Admission: open to journalists registered for the course and to the public.
