Competition rules

JFD – INAIL Piedmont “Lavoro 2021” International Film Award

International competition reserved to documentaries dedicated to the exploration of work-related issues. Works made all over the world, lasting more than 30 minutes and made after January 1st, 2019 are admitted. The works will compete for the following prizes, supported by the Regional Inail Direction: Award for best documentary (4,000 Euros), Award for best subject (2,000 Euros), Audience Award (1,000 Euros).

 

JFD – Turin Chamber of Commerce “Job for the Future” Award

Competition reserved for short films dedicated to the exploration of work-related issues. Works made in the European Union by directors under 40 years of age, lasting less than 30 minutes and produced after January 1st 2019 are admitted. The works will compete for the following prizes, supported by the Turin Chamber of Commerce: Award for the best short film (5,000 Euros), Award for best director (3,000 Euros), Award for the best subject about current Italian reality (2,000 Euros).

Lavoro 2021 Jury

Stefania Casini graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan while continuing with her acting studies. After a successful theatrical activity she made her film debut with Pietro Germi in A pocketful of chestnuts (1970). During the Seventies she also worked in dubbing and with movie directors such as Pietro Germi, Dario Argento, Peter Greenaway, Bernardo Bertolucci, Paul Morrissey and Andy Warhol. Since the Eighties she dedicated herself mostly to director-journalist activities making movies for cinema like Lontano da dove (1983) and Un paradiso di bugie (1997) but also for television, making numerous series. She co-founded Bizef Produzioni with Giancarlo Soldi and lately is interested in immersion experiences and Virtual Reality with works like Lost Memories, competing officially at the World VR Forum and Mare Nostrum. The Nightmare which was presented in numerous festivals and purchased by RaiPlay.

Davide Oberto studied Philosophy at the University of Turin. In 1999 he started collaborating with the Turin Film Festival to eventually become curator of the competitive sections dedicated to short films and Italian documentaries in 2005. Three years later, he creates TFFdoc, a new section dedicated to international documentaries. From 2002 to 2009 he was in charge of the program for ?From Sodom to Hollywood? LGBT film festival, which he curated with numerous retrospectives. From 2015 through 2018, he was the director of Doclisboa alongside Cíntia Gil. He collaborated with this festival again in 2019 by curating the retrospective dedicated to Jocelyne Saab.

Cristina Piccino studied Cinema History at the Bologna DAMS. She is a journalist and a critic for Il Manifesto, of which she has been editor since the 1990s. She also writes for periodicals and magazines such as Rolling Stones and Amica in addition to collaborating with television networks and festivals as a selector and curator, among which Bellaria Anteprima doc, Taormina Cinema and Filmmaker.

Mariapaola Pierini is an associate Cinema, Photography and Television professor who teaches at the University of Turin three-year DAMS bachelor?s in addition to the CAM master?s courses. She is one of the founding members of the Actor and Divism Research Center (CRAD) plus she is the author of the ActorSegno column in the magazine «Segnocinema». Some of her books are (in Italian): Prima del cinema. Il teatro di Orson Welles (Bulzoni, 2005), Attori e Metodo. Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, James Dean; e Marilyn Monroe (Zona, 2006), Gary Cooper. Il cinema dei divi, l?America degli eroi (Le Mani, 2011). She has curated the anthology Racconti di cinema (Einaudi, 2014) alongside Emiliano Morreale.

Job for the Future Jury

Giulio Sangiorgio, journalist and film critic, lives and works in Milan. He starts writing on the pages of the magazine duellanti. Nowadays he is the director in charge of the weekly cinema, television, music and show business magazine Film Tv. He is a member of the Milan Filmmaker Festival?s selection committee and Pistoia?s Presente Italiano. He is part of the council of the Italian Movie Critics National Syndicate and he is a member of the commission that award the critics? Film certificate. He was also the director of a series of film essays and the curator of the Italian monographs about Lav Diaz and François Ozon.

Dario Gallina, a graduate in Commerce and Economics, is the CEO of ?Dottor Gallina s.r.l.? family business specialized in the production of polycarbonate systems and sheets for the construction and automotive industries. He was the Vice-president of the Turin Industrial Union?sYoung Entrepreneurs Group from 2004 to 1007, then he was President of the Small Industry Group from 2014 to 2016 and President of the Turin Industrial Union from 2016 to 2020. From 2020 he is President of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, Vice-president of Tecnoholding Spa, Vice-president of Unioncamere Piemonte and an Executive Board member of the ICC – International Chamber of Commerce.

Lidiya Liberman, born in Ukraine into a family of medicine teachers, she stared visiting Italy at the age of 11 by learning the language during her Summer vacations. After studying the piano at the conservatory, she got her first important role in a Russian project when she was 16. She moved to Italy at the age of 20, where she graduated at Rome?s National School of Cinema and began her acting career working with Marco Bellocchio, Anna Negri, Carlo Sironi, Nicola Bellucci and Gianluca Jodice. In 2018 she worked with Maura Delpero in Maternal, which won her the award for best interpretation at the Odessa International Festival.

Gianluca Matarrese graduated from the University of Turin and Paris VIII, graduating at the same time from the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. He made his debut on French television in 2008 making a sitcom. Since then, he is working as an author and tv director in France, where he also follows an acting career for cinema and theater. His short film Mon Baiser de cinéma won the Achille Valdata at the 2014 Turin Film Festival. His first feature film, Fuori Tutto won the award for best Italian documentary at the 2019 Turin Film Festival. He recently directed a documentary titled Barbara Pravi, voilà qui je suis. His most recent work, La dernière séance, has been selected for the closing event of the 36th Critics? Week at Venice 2021.

Carla Vulpiani, studied Film History and Criticism in Milan, while at the same time she started to work in the film industry. From 2011 to 2017 she was a programmer and then artistic co-director of the Milano Film Festival. Since 2017 she has been working as a creative producer mainly for the Dublin-based animation studio And Maps And Plans ltd. In addition she is a sales agent and co-founder of the Varicoloured – Holistic Film Agency, specialized in the production and distribution of short films. She is a Project Manager of the Torino Short Film Market, plus since 2021 she is also a consultant for the Biennale – Venice Film Festival.
