The exploitation of agricultural workers

A special event dedicated to the exploitation of agricultural workers, organized in collaboration with CGIL-CISL-UIL, will take place on Thursday, September 23rd at the Polytechnic of Turin. After the screening of the movie Spaccapietre by Gianluca e Massimiliano De Serio there will be a debate in which Angelo Colombini (National CISL secretary) and Ilaria Ippolito (researcher) will intervene together with the directors.

Giuseppe, unemployed after a serious accident that has compromised one of his eyes, is forced to return to work after the passing of his wife Angela, a laborer who died due to an illness while she was working in the fields. Giuseppe and his son Antò, left alone and without a home, must move into a tent city that hosts other landless laborers. Here they will meet Rosa, Angela?s friend and workmate who witnessed her death. Antò, who dreams of becoming an archaeologist and believes his father has superpowers, still believes her mom will return to them one day.

Gianluca & Massimiliano De Serio (Turin, Italy, 1978) they have been working together since 1999, winning numerous awards and recognitions including the Special Jury Prize at the 2007 Turin Film for L’esame di Xhodi (Xhodi?s Examination) and the prize for Best Italian Documentary at the 2010 TFF for Bakroman. In 2011, their first fiction feature film, Sette opere di misericordia (Seven Works of Mercy), was presented at the Locarno Film Festival where it won the Don Quixote Award and the second Youth Jury prize. Their documentary I ricordi del fiume (Memories of the river) was presented in Venice in 2015.
