Through the memory of his father, who died in a workplace accident, the director evokes his childhood at a small village in eastern France. The pace of daily life dictated by the repetitive essentiality of the work, noises, tools and gestures. Chopping up wood, milking cows, sewing, turning, grinding… gestures that are repeated from generation to generation until they consume lives and bodies. A lyrical and melancholic song dedicated to the curse and poetry of everyday life.

Pierre Schlesser (France, 1968) is a Geneva-based director, editor and poet. After graduating in Cinema at the Sorbonne University in Paris, he attended in a Master’s in editing at the Bruxelles Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle (INSAS) in 2012. He worked as a teaching assistant in the Cinema department of the Geneva University of the Arts. L’Huile et le fer is his first work.
