In the night between February 25 th and 26 th , 2023, a caique sailing from Turkey ran aground in the small town of Steccato di Cutro, in Calabria, Italy. The shipwreck caused a massacre of migrants. On that same shore, five young African men share their story. They arrived in Calabria from Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and decided to stay and live in Caulonia, Lamezia, Reggio Calabria and Soveria Mannelli. Both small and large towns, where they found their new home (in Swahili, “nyumba” means “home”), social and working inclusion. They create temporary drawings with the sand, visual traces that will eventually be erased, through which they describe the harsh experiences they lived, with images within images. This movie is dedicated to the over thirty thousand deaths crossing the Mediterranean Sea, which has become a cemetery.
