Cesare, a fifty-year-old Roman plumber (memorably played by Salvo Randone), experiences true loneliness after the death of his wife. When he accidentally witnesses the death of a man from a heart attack, haunted by the thought of his days being numbered, he decides to quit his job and reclaim his life, making up for lost time. Thus begins a journey through unfamiliar environments like art exhibitions, airports, and beach resorts, searching for loved ones and lost places.
The second feature film by Elio Petri, Countless Days received the Nastro d’argento in 1963 for Best Original Screenplay. The film was restored by the National Cinema Museum of Turin in collaboration with the Cineteca Foundation of Bologna at the L’Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory.

Carlo Lizzani (Rome, 1929 – Rome, 1982), director, screenwriter, and movie critic, was one of the most prominent figures in Italian cinema during the second half of the twentieth century. Each of his works offers a powerful and piercing glimpse into Italian society. After his debut with The Assassin, he created such landmarks as Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion and The Working Class Goes to Heaven.
