On Tuesday 6 October at 10 a.m., Job Film Days, in collaboration with Rai Teche, organises an educational session primarily aimed at upper-secondary and vocational school students, focusing on the restoration of film materials from the RAI Archive. Carlo Conversano, from Rai Teche’s Media Digitisation and Preservation department, will explain the approach and methods behind the complex but fascinating work that Rai Teche has been carrying out for several years to ensure the transmission, accessibility and long-term preservation of the Rai Archive, one of the largest and most diverse in the world. The session will explore the techniques, tools and interventions involved, as well as the ethical choices faced by restorers. Maurizio Zecchin, a Rai set designer with thirty years of experience who has designed sets for numerous programmes broadcast on Rai channels and for several television dramas, will explain how a set is conceived and takes shape, from the initial idea through to construction and broadcast. The session traces the stages of the process: analysing the programme concept or screenplay, working with the director and production team, developing initial sketches, technical design, choosing materials, construction and assembly, and finally adapting the set to filming requirements, lighting and video content. Examples will illustrate the differences between two fields: in television programmes, set design must create a recognisable visual identity while meeting the needs of the studio, cameras and lighting; in drama, settings help define the story, period and characters’ identities. The evening includes the awards ceremony for the Festival’s competitive sections: the international competition for documentaries and fiction features exploring different aspects of the world of work, the “Lavoro 2026” JFD – INAIL Piemonte International Film Award; and the competition for short films made in the European Union by directors under 40, exploring emerging jobs and the challenges of contemporary work, the “Job for the Future 2026” JFD – Camera di commercio di Torino Award. Prizes will also be awarded to the best film treatments on the theme of work developed during the “Dall’idea al soggetto Job Film Days 2026” writing workshop. On Sunday 11 October at 5 p.m. at Cinema Massimo, Screen 3, Job Film Days, in collaboration with Cinetrab and Festival de Cinema de Lima PUCP, presents Calle Cuba by Vanessa Batista, winner of the ILO-Cinetrab Award at the 2026 Festival de Cine de Lima. On Calle Cuba in Old Havana, four women from different generations reveal, through their lives, the fragility and resilience of a country in crisis. The documentary was recognised for its realistic and humane approach to the world of work through women’s experiences, making visible care work and other forms of labour that, although essential to everyday life, are not always recognised as such.
