The dignity of work

Thursday 8 October, 2.30 p.m., Ordine dei Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino, Via Pietro Giannone, 10

In collaboration with Ordine dei Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino.

On Thursday 8 October at 2.30 p.m., at the association’s headquarters, Job Film Days, in collaboration with Ordine dei Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino, presents three short films that explore work from unusual perspectives.

Il quaderno di Tommaso by Marco Pellegrino (Italy, 2026, 20′), L’uomo a cui hanno rubato il cuore by Francesca Sepa and Riccardo Colleluori (Italy, 2026, 15′) and Overwork by Céline Berger (Germany, 2025, 10′) use different stories and cinematic approaches to explore the relationship between work, conscience, productivity and identity. From the discovery of civic responsibility to a critique of a system that measures people by their productivity, and the alienating repetition of everyday gestures, these three films invite us to view the world of work from unexpected angles.

Followed by a discussion with Fabrizio Bontempo (President, Ordine Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino), Luca Furfaro (Secretary General, Fondazione Studi Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino), Stefania Vettorello (Council Member, Ordine Consulenti del Lavoro di Torino).

Admission: by invitation.

Tommaso is 16 years old and draws everything. In his notebook, he jealously guards everything he witnesses at school: the cruelties, the indifference, the silent complicities. Even his own. When Antonio Bartuccio – the former mayor of Rizziconi who challenged the ‘Ndrangheta – comes to speak at a school assembly, Tommaso seems not to be listening. But something about that story stays with him. His notebook begins to fill up.

Marco Pellegrino. Born in 1984, in Novara, Marco Pellgrino graduated at art high school before enrolling in Cultural Heritage Studies at the University of Milan. He graduated in 2007 with a thesis on the relationship between photography and film directing. The following year, he moved to Rome, where he attended a course in directing and screenwriting. Since 2008, he has directed his first short films, commercials, and music videos, worked as an assistant director, and played drums and guitar in several rock bands.

A former worker, believing that the factory had removed his heart to increase his productivity, becomes the protagonist of a television investigation that uncovers the dark side of the world of labor: a system that rules workers’ lives and bodies, where personal distress is turned into a management issue, and institutional voices contribute to neutralize the conflict making what is not productive into an individual weakness, a mere paranoia.

Francesca Sepa and Riccardo Colleluori. Born in Melfi in 2000, Francesca Sepa devoted herself to figurative arts, photography and cinema during the high school years. She continues her studies at the Aldo Moro University of Bari attending the philosophy faculty, reinforcing her interest in politics and social themes. Her desire to fully immerse herself in the practical field of arts led her to enroll at the IFA in Pescara, where she graduated in Filmmaking and completed a master’s degree in directing and screenwriting. Born in Atri in 2003, Riccardo Colleluori attended the Zoli Technical High School in Atri. Passionate about cinema, comedy and cabaret, he enrolls himself at IFA in Pescara. In 2024 he directed Suono sporco, her first short film.

Overwork (Germany, 2025, 10′)

International title: Overwork
Original title: Overwork

Between the 1970s and the 1990s, the federal work agency of RFT produced a series of educational movies in 16 mm focused on presenting and providing information on a wide range of specific occupations. Abandoning the cinematic strategies of this material, Overwork amplifies processes and repetitive actions to bring to light the underlying dimension of labour, in which boredom and violence are in constant tension.

Céline Berger. Céline Berger is a French interdisciplinary artist who lives in Cologne. Before dedicating herself to art, she worked from 1997 to 2008 as a production engineer in the microelectronics industry. In 2012, she graduated from the Kunsthochschule für Medien and she had a residency in Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Often working in non-artistic professional contexts, her work explores every day, “unspectacular” narratives, minor, often overlooked stories from our working lives, and questions the very concept of productive labor.

Filmografia: Redundant Business Woman… (sf, exp., 2012), Conference (sf, exp., 2013), Poem (sf, exp., 2013), Rare Birds in These Lands (sf, doc., 2013, co-regia Lea Hartlaub), La Ronde (sf, exp., 2017), Ballade (sf, exp., 2017), Since We Are Here (sf, doc., 2018), No Third Man (sf, doc., 2018), L’Inoccupée (sf, doc., 2019), Keine Arbeitsromantik (sf, doc., 2020), Cutting Edges (sf, doc., 2021), And I Measure (sf, exp., 2023), Overwork (sf, doc., 2025).
