Goliarda Sapienza (1924-1996) was one of the greatest literary voices of 20 th century Italian literature, rediscovered only after her death when L’arte della gioia , her masterpiece she dedicated ten years of her life to, was published first in Germany and then in France. After its success abroad, the novel was eventually published in Italy in 2008. Mario Martone dedicated his movie Fuori to this writer, actress, free intellectual and anarchist. The movie focuses on a specific period in her tormented life: set in Rome in 1980, Sapienza ends up in prison for stealing jewelry. Her encounter with young inmates turns into an experience of rebirth, which will continue even after their release from prison and will give Sapienza the joy of living back and the push to write again.
