National premiere

On Wednesday, October 1st, at 9:00 p.m., in Screen 3 of Cinema Massimo, Frelle Petersen‘s Home Sweet Home will be presented as a national premiere. The screening is organized in collaboration with the Order of Social Workers of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, a new partner of the Festival, and allows, thanks to the director’s intimate narration, to reflect on family bonds, the search for a sense of belonging, and the work, full of humanity, in a center that provides home care for the elderly.

Event followed by a debate with Sabrina Testa (Vice President of the Order of Social Workers of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta) and Irina Tulbure (social health worker).

Sofie starts her new job in a home care center for elderly people in a small Danish city. Separated, she lives with her 10-year-old daughter who still sees her father. She dives into her work, going every day from home to home, regularly attending her patients, both men and women, with whom she builds human connections aside from the strictly professional ones. Her dedication causes her to neglect her daughter and only after a critical period, she manages to rebuild a deep bond with her. Sofie also works as an instructor in the gym attended by her daughter. Due to exposing herself too much to some people she takes care of, she is sent on temporary leave. And yet, in spite of all the challenges she has to face, Sofie still finds the way to keep her humanity.

Frelle Petersen (Aabenraa, 1980), director and screenwriter, grew up in the southernmost region of Denmark. He started working as assistant director in 2003. After directing short films, in 2016 he debuted with the long feature film Where Have All the Good Men Gone . After three years, his second long feature film Uncle won Best Picture at the Tokyo Film Festival. Home Sweet Home was presented at the 2025 Berlinale and represents the fourth collaboration between Petersen and the actress Jette Søndergaard.
